On 7 July 2022, Regulation (EU) 2022/1176 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union amending Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 regarding the use of Octocrylene (CAS no 6197-30-4) and Benzophenone-3 (CAS no 131-57-7) as UV filters in cosmetic products.
Considering the concerns related to their potential endocrine-disrupting properties and in the light of new SCCS opinions SCCS/1627/21 and SCCS/1625/20, European Commission amended Annex VI to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, and entries 4 (for Benzophenone-3) and 10 (for Octocrylene) are replaced by the following.

Deadlines
- The Regulation will enter into force on July 28, 2022.
- Cosmetic products containing these substances and complying with the restrictions set out in Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 as applicable on 27 July 2022 may be placed on the Union market until 28 January 2023.
- Cosmetic products containing these substances and complying with the restrictions set out in Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 as applicable on 27 July 2022 may be made available on the Union market until 28 July 2023.
