With biobased materials and products as a top priority, the European Commission has now adopted their annual Union work programme for European standardization 2025.

The reason why biobased products are increasingly gaining attention is that they promote sustainability by utilizing renewable resources, while at the same time enhancing resilience by decreasing reliance on finite fossil fuels.

In this context, standardization can play a crucial role in supporting the regulatory approval of innovative biobased products by providing clear, consistent guidelines and benchmarks that regulators can use to assess safety, efficacy, and environmental impact.
