On 14 February 2024, EFfCI (The European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients) and Cosmetics Europe presented joint guidance on the EU restriction rules on SPMs (“microplastics”) to help the cosmetics industry understand the key elements of the restriction: the definition of synthetic polymeric microparticles (SPM), the exceptions for certain uses and the transition times and also provide answers to frequently asked questions and more.

The guidance can be found here. A concluding section also addresses areas that need further investigation before clear answers can be given.

Cosmetics Europe and EFfCI have also developed a form to facilitate the parties manufacturer, supplier etc. in the form of an SPM Template.
